The STCW Elementary First Aid module is a fundamental safety requirement for all seafarers. Students will gain the essential knowledge and training to enable them to apply immediate, life-saving first aid to an injured casualty or a person suffering from acute illness while on board a vessel.

Mandatory Requirement: This course forms part of the STCW Basic Safety Training (BST) package and meets the standards of proficiency set out in Section A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code.

A Practical Approach to Training

We use a highly interactive, hands-on methodology to ensure students leave with genuine confidence. Training is delivered through:

Course Objectives & Topics

By the end of the session, delegates will be proficient in:

  • ✓ Casualty Assessment: Correctly assessing a scene and prioritizing treatment (ABC).
  • ✓ Emergency Response: Management of unconscious casualties and the recovery position.
  • ✓ Trauma Management: Controlling severe bleeding and treating shock.
  • ✓ Common Hazards: Initial treatment for burns, scalds, and fractures.
  • ✓ Choking & Asphyxia: Effective response to airway obstructions.

Who is It For?

This course is for all prospective seafarers, superyacht crew, and offshore workers. There are no formal prerequisites, but candidates should be physically capable of performing floor-based CPR drills.

Refreshing Your Skills: Ideal for experienced seafarers looking to maintain competency. Since no official refresher module exists for EFA, completing the full course ensures your medical knowledge and practical skills remain current and effective.

Location
This course runs at our main Academy address: Unit 6 Hardley Industrial Estate, Hardley, Southampton SO45 3NQ.
Course Times
Standard course hours run from 08:30 to 16:30. Please arrive by 08:15 for registration and introductory briefings. Late arrivals may be turned away to ensure regulatory compliance hours are met.
Days & Duration
This module is delivered over 1 full day, as a standalone course or as part of the 5-day STCW Basic Safety Training package.

  • Valid government-issued photographic ID (Passport or Driving Licence)
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for floor-based practical CPR exercises
  • Upload your health questionnaire on our online portal after booking
Refreshments
Complimentary hot and cold drink refreshments are provided on site throughout the course day. Lunch is not provided - options are available locally, or attendees are welcome to bring a packed lunch.

  • Pay in Full: Secure your spot today with a single 100% upfront payment
  • Flexi-Pay Deposit: Pay a 35% non-refundable deposit now to reserve your place. The remaining balance is due 14 days prior to the course start date.
Cancellation Policy
  • Cancellation 14+ Days Before Start Date: You will receive a full refund minus the 35% non-refundable deposit. If you originally paid the 35% deposit option, no further payments will be due.
  • Cancellation Within 14 Days of Start Date: 100% cancellation fee. Course fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Accommodation
Accommodation is not available as an add-on option. A list of recommended local hotels, B&Bs, and guesthouses near our training facility is provided as part of the joining information.
Travel & Parking
Free on-site parking is available at our main training facility. Full directions and travel guidance will be provided in your booking confirmation email.
Completion of this course provides an internationally recognised STCW certificate, ensuring you are prepared to act decisively in a medical emergency at sea.
