Update Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats

Our STCW Update Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) course is designed for seafarers who already hold the full Proficiency in Survival Crafts & Rescue Boats (Other Than Fast Rescue Boats) qualification and must maintain STCW competency every 5 years. This refresher course ensures continued compliance with the mandatory standards of proficiency outlined in STCW Code A-VI/2-1.

This intensive 1-day course includes classroom theory and practical training at our waterside facility. Delegates will complete hands-on drills involving the launching, handling, and recovery of lifeboats and inflatable rescue boats.

Course Content Includes:

  • Practical operation of rescue boats (other than fast rescue boats)
  • Launching and recovery procedures
  • Lifeboat and life raft handling under simulated emergency conditions
  • Davit-launched life raft drills
  • Use of emergency and survival equipment
  • Survival craft communication and distress signals
  • Safe procedures for abandonment and recovery operations

Course Entry Requirements

Under the updated STCW Convention and Code, seafarers must complete updated proficiency training every 5 years for all safety-critical qualifications.

Candidates must hold one of the following valid certificates:

  • Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSC&RB) certificate issued by an STCW-compliant administration accepted by the MCA
  • UK AB (Able Seafarer Deck – STCW II/4) Certificate
  • UK Certificate of Equivalent Competency (CEC)
  • UK Certificate of Competency (CoC) (excluding Master of Code Vessels)

This updated training provides the essential education, practical skills, and knowledge required to maintain compliance with STCW A-VI/2-1.
