Update Personal Survival Techniques - Self Declaration Route
Location: This course is carried out at The Quays in Central Southampton
Eligibility Checklist
You may attend this Self Declaration Route only if:
- You hold a valid STCW PST certificate from an STCW-compliant flag state.
- You have maintained onboard competence in all skills listed in the Self-Declaration Form (Annex B of MSN 1865) within the last 5 years on an IMO registered vessel.
Note: If you cannot meet these criteria, you must book the Personal Survival Techniques 1 Day instead.
Under the revised STCW Convention and Code (STCW 2010), all seafarers must complete updated proficiency training every 5 years. This refresher is a crucial hands-on session designed to ensure you retain the practical skills needed to survive in an emergency at sea.
What the Course Covers
This practical training is fully compliant with section A-VI/1-1 of the STCW Code. Participants will refresh their skills in:
- Correctly donning a lifejacket and immersion suit.
- Jumping safely from height into the water.
- Righting an inverted liferaft and boarding survival craft from the water.
- Approved survival techniques to keep afloat without a lifejacket.
- Emergency procedures, distress signals, and hypothermia prevention.
Who Should Attend?
- Merchant Navy seafarers and Superyacht crew.
- Offshore workers and Fishing vessel crew.
- Boatmasters requiring a BML update.
- Anyone needing to maintain STCW Basic Safety Training certification.
